Information we collect

  • Identity and contact details, such as your name, address, email address and phone number.
  • Financial information, including details needed for fraud prevention and anti-money laundering checks.
  • Health and medical information, where it's needed to give insurance advice.
  • Property information, needed by lenders to assess a mortgage.
  • Information you give us through this website, for example when you request a call back.

Where it comes from

Most of the information we hold comes directly from you. We may also receive information from lenders and insurers we approach on your behalf as part of the advice process.

How we use it

We use your information to give you advice, arrange the products you choose, meet our legal and regulatory duties, and keep in touch with you about your arrangements.

We rely on the following lawful bases under UK data protection law:

  • Contract: to provide the advice and services you've asked for.
  • Legal obligation: to meet our regulatory, anti-money laundering and record-keeping duties.
  • Legitimate interests: to run our business and keep in touch with existing clients about their arrangements.

Where we need health information to arrange insurance, we'll explain why and only use it for that purpose.

Who we share it with

  • Lenders and insurers we approach during the advice process.
  • The Right Mortgage Limited, our principal firm.
  • The Financial Conduct Authority, for regulatory purposes.
  • The Information Commissioner's Office, the National Crime Agency and other law enforcement bodies, where we're required to.
  • Providers of the customer relationship management and product sourcing systems we use.

How it's stored

Your information is held electronically and securely in our customer relationship management system, The Key, and in the product sourcing systems we use, including Mortgage Brain, Trigold, iPipeline and AIR.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as we need it to meet our regulatory and legal duties. This includes the period during which you could make a complaint, and the time we're required to keep records for anti-money laundering purposes. After that it is permanently deleted.

Your rights

In certain circumstances you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct or complete it;
  • ask us to erase it;
  • ask us to restrict how we use it;

There's no charge for making a request, and we'll respond within one month. To make a request, email dpo@therightmortgage.co.uk or write to us at the address above.
