What I can help with

Most people come to me with one question. Often it turns out there are two or three things worth looking at together.

Kevin Hampton, founder of Hampton Home Finance

You deal with me, from the first call to the day it all completes

I've been a mortgage adviser since 2017 and set up Hampton Home Finance in February 2020. I live in Eastbourne with my wife, our two children, a dog and a tortoise, and I work with people right across East Sussex.

There's no call centre and no being passed between departments. I do the research, I explain your options in plain English, and I keep you updated until the keys are in your hand or the funds have arrived. After that, I'll be in touch every year to check your arrangements still suit you.

I believe you have to build rapport and do a good job to gain trust, and that is exactly what I aim for in all cases.

More about me

How it works

  1. A no-obligation chat

We talk through what you're trying to do, by phone, video or face to face. It costs nothing and there's no pressure to go further.

  2. Research

I look at your circumstances in detail and compare options from the lenders and insurers I work with.

  3. A clear recommendation

You get my recommendation and the reasons for it, along with any fees, before you commit to anything.

  4. Application to completion

I handle the paperwork and chase lenders, solicitors and estate agents so you don't have to.

  5. Reviews every year

I check in each year and well before your deal ends, so you aren't left drifting onto a higher rate.

Good advice joins things up

A mortgage is usually the biggest commitment a household makes, and it rarely stands on its own. So alongside the rate and the monthly payment, I'll ask the questions a comparison website won't.

You decide what to act on. My job is to make sure you've seen the whole picture first.

  • If one of you couldn't work for six months, how would the mortgage be paid?
  • Does the mortgage term run past the age you'd like to retire?
  • Could your family stay in the house if the worst happened?
  • Later on, how would you like your home to fit into your retirement and what you leave behind?

Questions people often ask

See all FAQs

Do you charge a fee?

There may be a fee for mortgage advice. The precise amount will depend on your circumstances, but I estimate it will be £495 for a residential purchase or £795 for equity release. I'll confirm any fee in writing before you commit to anything.

Protection advice is fee free.

Can we meet face to face?

Yes. I offer face to face and telephone advice, and video calls if that's easier. Plenty of clients start with a phone call and meet once there's something to look at together.

When should I start looking at a new deal?

Ideally around six months before your current deal ends. Many lenders let you arrange a new deal several months ahead, and starting early gives you time to compare options without being moved onto your lender's standard variable rate.

Is equity release right for me?

It can be, but it isn't right for everyone. It reduces the value of your estate and may affect means-tested benefits, so I'll always look at the alternatives with you as well.
